Exercise.. part one

Dear Reader,

Exercise. A concept to me a while ago that was a scary prospect. I thought I’d have to don the old spandex and to go the gym and look like I was about to have a cardiac on the treadmill whilst skinny mini gym bunnies with a face full of make up running like mad, not even breaking a sweat. Yet, me, well if I went to a gym with a face full of make up, I would come out looking like Alice Cooper.
But then the idea of a gym fills me with absolute horror. So then what does a fat lass like me do to exercise? Well, I dusted off the old trainers, downloaded a walking app (map my walk) and off I went - in the local area. Donned my air pods, listened to Chris Moyles podcast and before I knew it, I had walked (normally) not briskly or power walking as I look like I had a pole up my arris - I had walked 10,000 steps and felt pretty good about it. I had walked 5 miles. The benefits? Fresh air, felt a bit more positive mentally and I’d burnt 435 calories. Oh and it was free.
My second idea of exercise is You tube. There are lots from easy walking / gentle exercise with Lesley Sansome, The body project that actually shoes overweight people getting fit, the body coach with Jo Wicks to crazy mad insanity work outs. But I’ve done Lesley Sansomes walking and the body project - it’s gentle and you can go at your own pace. Plus you can do it in the privacy of your own home in just your pants if you wanted. Just make sure your husband doesn’t have his phone in hand recording you as you look like a cardiac waiting to happen.
Now, my third one is swimming. And I don’t mean butterfly, front crawl mad athletic styles, I mean either breast stroke or back stroke or even with a float and kick the bijesus out of the water. Any thing that makes you move a bit more. For me, these are the exercises I have recently started and I feel good about me. At the end of the day, I am also physically tired, rather mentally tired, and I feel good about it at the end of the day.
Now, I am starting out on my own exercise journey - things that help me to lose a bit of wobble and to feel healthier.
But it’s each individuals’ own journey. It’s what you like to do. x
